I am allergic to certain foods/ I have a special dietary requirement. Will this cause a problem?
We will try to accommodate for special dietary requirements whenever possible, however we require as much notice as possible in order to do so. Please send us an email or contact the school to let us know in advance of your course what your dietary requirements are. Please be aware that some classes are easier to alter than others.

What is the difference between a Hands On class and a Demonstration class?

Demonstration classes are conducted either around the La Cornue Demonstration island or in front of  the AGA’s. We seat 16 guests, depending on the area of the Cookery School. Attendees are provided with recipe packs so that they may follow the Chef step by step as well as a generous tasting portion of each recipe demonstrated, tea or coffee for daytime classes and wine for evening classes. Although there is not any hands on participation during this class, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and interact with the presenter throughout this 2 hour format.

Hands On classes are fully participatory, and you will work with other attendees to create a variety of recipes advertised for each class. These classes run between 3-3.5 hours and accommodate up to 9 people. There will be a chef and assistant on hand to answer any questions you may have during this class.

What is the minimum age requirement to attend a Hands On class?

Our Hands On classes are for adults. We require students to be a minimum age of 18 years old in order to attend on their own. 16 year olds are permitted to attend only when accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class.

I am a beginner, are all the classes suitable for me?

All classes are suitable for all levels. The Chefs will ensure that you have the assistance required to enjoy the day and learn a new skill. It would be worth starting with a 'skills' class such as Knife Skills/Fish Knife Skills or our 6-part Cooking with Confidence course.
Please contact the school if you would like further guidance or information.

Will I eat the food I make in a Hands On class?

There will be an opportunity to eat all the dishes that you make. Classes will conclude with a family-style meal, where students will sit down together and share what they have made.

What should I wear/take with me to the class?

For demonstration classes, come as you are, as you will not be taking a hands on role in preparing the food. For Hands On classes, please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes. We will provide you with an apron, recipe packs, and all of the ingredients and tools required for each class.
Should you wish to bring your own knives for our Knife Skills class, we ask that you do so safely and responsibly.
If you have booked a class using a gift voucher please bring it with you for collection.

Will each student have a workstation to themselves?

There will be two students per workstation but there is ample room. Attendees often work in pairs or groups of four, dependent on the class and the Chef's teaching style.
