Suzie Lee – My top 6 ingredients and how to make the most of them:

Ginger

Garlic

Soy sauce

Sesame oil

Oyster sauce

Spring onions

This is an insight on how I maximise the use of my top Asian ingredients to create super tasty meals but in a low fuss way! While we are making these dishes I will talk all about my top tips on how to use the leftovers and what other ingredients that can be subbed in and ways to reduce food waste when cooking.

Fluffy Birthday Cupcakes – Chiffon cakes are super popular for Chinese celebration cakes and this is really quick to prep. This can be made at the very start of the class and then the rest of the dishes can be made while it is baking. The cupcakes can be decorated at the very end and enjoyed!

Salmon fried rice – such an easy recipe that can be utilised with or without the salmon or meat. Ginger, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce and topped with spring onion. This dish packs vegetables and flavour but is super versatile.

Spicy Lotus Root Stir-Fry – a combination of ginger, garlic, sesame oil and soy sauce transformed again to make a crunchy stir fry, but it is not restrictive to the vegetables in my recipe.

Ginger and spring onion sauce – quick and tasty sauce which I think goes with everything, this is the accompanying sauce for Hainanese Chicken Rice.

About Suzie Lee

TV presenter and author Suzie Lee is the winner of BBC's Best Home Cook 2020, she also happens to be a Chartered Accountant.

Brought up by her Hong Kong parents in Northern Ireland Suzie was extremely fortunate in that her parents carried on the customs and traditions of Hong Kong in their family home in Northern Ireland. 

She has been cooking since she was a child when she used to help out in her family’s Chinese takeaway (Man Lee in Lisburn, Northern Ireland) – her love of cooking instilled in her by her mum, who sadly passed away quite suddenly when she was 16.

Since winning the show, Suzie has gone on to present Suzie Lee Home Cook Heroes, broadcast in 2020 on BBC NI and Suzie Lee Home Cook Hero which aired in March and April 2021 and in November 2023 through to February 2024 on BBC NI and BBC iPlayer. Suzie cooks all genres of food on her tv show and is passionate about Cantonese/Hong Kong cuisine as she is rediscovering her heritage. Suzie's first book, Simply Chinese, was published in August 2022 and it was followed up with Simply Chinese Feasts in Jan 2024 with a 3rd book commissioned for 2025 release.

She continues to make regular TV appearances on Ireland AM and This Morning where she shares her love of cooking and recipes.

Our partners have been chosen with great care, as all our equipment must stand up to the day-to-day rigours of our cookery school – much like a professional kitchen, that you can enjoy using whilst creating your own amazing dishes in class to give you the best possible experience when cooking with us.

Our classes and outstanding range of teachers will help you hone your gastronomic skills, even if you are a complete novice or a dab hand in the kitchen. We love highlighting new upcoming food trends and championing the rising stars within the culinary world.

Divertimenti does everything it can to reduce the risk of any students consuming an allergen that could cause and allergic reaction.

Please call the school to discuss any severe food allergies prior to booking a class online, we must speak to you before you visit the school if you have a severe allergy or severe dietary intolerance.

We will become as flexible as possible, where we can to remove a specific ingredient from a student’s recipe we will but we are unable to remove that ingredient for every student attending.

We handle all types of ingredients in the kitchen at Divertimenti and we are not able to completely allergen free environment, our kitchen is multi-purpose therefore this makes our kitchen unsuitable for those with life- threatening allergies, in such cases as these we would suggest getting in touch with the team to arrange a private lesson in your own home with one of our chefs. In the unlikely event you are unable to the class you have booked for and need to cancel your booking, for a full refund we will require your cancellation via email no less than 7 days.

Once we have received your cancellation, we will arrange a booking onto an alternative class date or a full refund, sadly we are unable to make changes to bookings or offer a refund with less than 7 days of the date of your class but we are happy to switch the names on the booking so a family member or friend can take the place.

Divertimenti reserves the right to cancel any demonstration or class or substitute another presenter at any time, in the unfortunate event that a ‘Personality’ present or chef cannot attend a session you will be offered the choice of an appropriate alternative or a full refund.

Attendees must be aged over 18 to attend an adult class - we have a list of suitable young adult and teenage classes suitable for under 18’s – they must be accompanied by an adult.
